Two of the slowest starters in the Bundesliga will lock horns this weekend, as Borussia Monchengladbach look to get on track after failing to win in their opening three matches. Darmstadt 98 will have the home field advantage as they look to pick up a first point of the campaign.
It has been a slow start to the Bundesliga season for both Borussia Monchengladbach and Darmstadt 98, as both are still searching for a first league victory of the new season. There will be pressure on the away side this weekend, as they currently sit in 16th after failing to win in their opening three matches.
That illustrates a really poor start to the campaign, especially considering that fans would have been hoping for a European push this term. After picking up a point on the opening day, Gladbach have been beaten in each of their last two matches. However, it was an improved effort in their most recent fixture, as they pushed Bayern Munich all the way before eventually falling to a 2-1 defeat at Borussia-Park.
It has been a rude awakening for Darmstadt in the Bundesliga following their promotion to the top-flight. They have suffered three straight defeats at the start of the new season, and they have scored just two goals across those matches. They will need to improve defensively after already allowing ten goals this term.
Their most recent defeat was suffered on the road, as they fell to a 5-1 loss against Bayer Leverkusen. Darmstadt had few answers for Leverkusen on that day, as they managed to record just a single shot on target from their 27% of the possession. A much-improved performance will be required this weekend.
Darmstadt are unbeaten in their last three matches against Gladbach, which includes a 2-1 win in the most recent clash in October 2022 in the DFB Pokal. Gladbach’s most recent win over their rival was a 2-0 success in the Bundesliga in May 2016.
Darmstadt holds an interesting record in this fixture, but it looks as though they have been outclassed in their opening matches this term. Therefore, it looks like this could be a match that goes in the way of Gladbach. We could see them landing a 2-0 win on the road to get a first victory this term.
