Two out of form sides in the Premier League will lock horns on Tuesday, as Sheffield United bid to show some fight in their battle against relegation. Crystal Palace will have home field advantage, as they search for a second win in six league matches.
There has been little to celebrate throughout this season for Sheffield United, with the Blades still locked in the bottom three positions in the league standings. They come into this round of matches without a win in their last five fixtures, and they have suffered defeats in two of their last three. That leaves the Blades seven points from safety at this stage.
Crystal Palace may not yet be out of the woods when it comes to retaining their Premier League status, as Roy Hodgson’s side are just five clear of the bottom three. They have won just five times in 21 outings this term, and they have landed just a single victory from their last five fixtures in the Premier League.
Palace’s poor run of form is evident from their last ten matches, winning just once over that period and suffering six defeats. However, it could be worth mentioning that their only win over that period was secured in their last home match against Brentford. Interestingly, a staggering 62% of the goals conceded by the Eagles have come across their last ten.
Sheffield United have been really poor on the road, losing 16 of their last 19 away from Bramall Lane. In fact, their only victory over that period was secured at Goodison Park in May 2021. Over that period, the Blades have scored just seven goals, and they are yet to score more than once in any match.
There hasn’t been a draw in the seven Premier League meetings between these sides, with the Blades landing two wins and Palace recording five victories. The Eagles have won their last three against Sheffield United without conceding.
Any hope that Sheffield United have of staying in the division will be built in their home matches. They have been poor away from home all season, and there has been limited evidence to suggest that they are capable of troubling Palace this week. Therefore, we will be siding with the home win for the Eagles.
