Crystal Palace’s worrying run of form continued with defeat last weekend, and they face the daunting challenge of coming up against Manchester City this weekend. The visitors will be looking for a third straight win to bridge the gap on Arsenal at the top of the standings.
Premier League Preview
Manchester City may have thought they were closing the gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League standings last week, but the Gunners scored a dramatic late winner to re-establish their five-point advantage over the champions. City was extremely professional in their fixture, as they registered a 2-0 home win over Newcastle United, with Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden netting the goals.
The win was a second straight success for Pep Guardiola’s side, and they have now gone five matches without defeat in the Premier League, with their only blemish over that period coming in the form of a score draw in their most recent game on the road. That 1-1 draw was picked up at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest. But, City appears to have too much for Palace this weekend.
I have kept saying for the last month or so that I didn’t believe Palace was out of the woods when it comes to relegation, and they are now just six points above the drop zone. They are yet to win this calendar year, and have gone six without a victory. Last weekend, they were handed a second defeat over that period, as they were easily brushed aside by Aston Villa.
The pressure doesn’t appear to be mounting on Patrick Vieira, but their inability to score goals is becoming a huge issue for the team. Palace has scored just 21 goals all team, which is the third worst record of the teams located outside of the bottom three.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester City Head to Head
Palace has picked up just three victories from their previous 22 matches against Manchester City across all competitions. However, the Eagles have lost just once in their last three against City, with that loss being suffered by a 4-2 scoreline earlier this term.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester City Prediction
It’s hard to side with anything other than a City win this weekend, as Palace don’t possess enough quality in the final third to pose serious questions of the City backline. We expect the visitors to run out comfortable winners.
