London derby action is on the agenda in the Premier League on Monday evening, as Chelsea and Crystal Palace both bid to get their campaigns back on track after suffering recent defeats. But, which side will claim maximum points at Selhurst Park?
It has been another extremely disappointing season for Chelsea, and the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino is already increasing. The Blues come into this round after suffering defeats in each of their last two league matches, which leaves them sitting eleventh in the overall standings. In fact, they could come nearer to dropping further down the standings if they don’t land maximum points on Monday.
Chelsea were well below the standards required in their latest outing, as they were humbled by Wolves at Stamford Bridge. The Blues conceded four goals against their West Midlands rivals, despite having opened the scoring after 19 minutes. It was their tenth defeat of the season, marking the fewest games taken to reach that tally since 1993-94.
Crystal Palace will be the home side this weekend, as the Eagles look for vital points to move clear of the relegation places. They come into this match sitting 14th in the standings, but they have suffered three defeats in their last five. That run of form leaves them sitting just five above the drop zone.
Palace put in one of their poorest displays of the season in their latest match, as they were thumped in their local derby by Brighton. The pressure is on Roy Hodgson coming into this round, as rumours are beginning to circulate that the former England boss could be relieved of his duties.
Chelsea boast an extremely dominant advantage in this fixture after winning each of their last 12 Premier League matches against the Eagles. That includes a 2-1 success in the reverse clash this term. Palace are without a home win against the Blues in five attempts since recording a 2-1 victory in October 2017.
There will be a lot at stake for both of these sides in the Premier League on Monday, with both looking for important points in the battle for positions in the middle of the standings. However, it could be worth taking a chance on Palace ending their poor run in front of a passionate home support this weekend.
