Huge action at the bottom of Serie A takes place on Saturday, as two of the teams in the bottom four spots collide. Cremonese will have the home advantage as they face a must-win match against 17th-placed Spezia.
It has been an excellent recovery by Cremonese to drag themselves back into contention of maintaining their top-flight status this term. However, this is a huge game for them on Saturday if they are to achieve that target. They come into the fixture having drawn their previous two, while they have lost just once across their last five matches in Serie A. However, they remain six points from safety with just five matches of the season remaining.
Cremonese were incredibly unfortunate to have been held to a draw in their previous match, as AC Milan struck in the 93rd minute to snatch a tie. The visitors went ahead after 77 minutes through David Okereke, but they were pegged back extremely late in the match, before Charles Pickel was sent off in the 96th minute.
Spezia will also be battling for vital points in their battle to avoid the drop, as they come into this fixture outside of the relegation places on head-to-head form. They are locked on 27 points alongside Hellas Verona, meaning that they could drop into the bottom three places this weekend if they are beaten on the road.
They have been struggling for form in recent months, as they have lost three of their previous five. Spezia is also without a win in their last five matches in the league. Furthermore, only Cremonese and Sampdoria have allowed more goals in the Italian top-flight this term than the visitors.
The previous clash between these sides this season ended in a 2-2 draw. That stalemate extended Spezia’s unbeaten record in this fixture to four matches, as they landed two wins in home fixtures against Cremonese during their time in Serie B.
This is a massive match-up at the bottom of the Serie A standings. We have been impressed with Cremonese’s performances throughout the second half of the season, and we could see them landing a fourth win in six home matches against Spezia this weekend.
