On January 16, Colorado will meet with St. Louis during the new NHL season. Are there any chances for Avalanche to take revenge? Let’s find out in our quality prediction.
Colorado had great results last season, showing the top attacking performance. The team managed to score 237 goals in the regular season, which allowed them to take second place in the West. The Avalanche also performed well in the playoffs, where they lost only to Dallas in the quarterfinals in the decisive meeting in overtime. However, the Avs failed to start this year with a victory. The club had to face their principal rival St. Louis and lost with a score of 1-4. Even though Colorado could open an account, they failed to score more, which led to a devastating defeat. The defenders made too many mistakes, leaving the goalkeeper to be torn apart by the Blues offense.
Despite a severe mid-season decline, St. Louis could maintain the top spot in the Western Conference standings with 94 points. However, the leadership did not help them in the playoffs. The team in 1/8 finals did not cope with Vancouver, losing in the series with a score of 2-4. The Blues played their first match this year with the Avalanche, having won without any problems (4-1). The “musicians” used almost every mistake of their opponent, thanks to which they managed to win. We must also give credit to the goalkeeper Binnington, who saved the team more than once in a difficult situation.
Colorado frankly played poorly in the first match of the season. The team is capable of more, but it is necessary to correct mistakes in defense, which led to the defeat. Also, Avalanche lacks teamwork, as most of the dangerous moments were created by the players’ individual skills. Given all this, we assume that St. Louis again has the opportunity to score at least three goals.
