Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping for a response from his Chelsea side when they return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon. Sheffield United will be the visitors to Stamford Bridge, as they chase a second win in succession.
There will be slight pressure building on Pochettino, as Chelsea return to action in the Premier League on Saturday. The Blues have dropped to 12th in the standings after losing each of their previous two and three of their last four in the top flight. Another defeat could see the Blues end the weekend as low as 14th in the standings.
Pochettino was left frustrated by his players in their most recent defeat, as they lacked quality in the final third against Everton. Chelsea were eventually beaten 2-0 at Goodison Park, and they mustered just four shots on target despite having 73% of the possession. The boss called for further investment in the winter transfer window, as the Blues look to battle for a top half finish in the standings.
Chris Wilder was given the perfect homecoming by Sheffield United over the weekend, as the Blades picked up a rare victory. James McAtee netted the winning goal for United, as they landed a much-deserved 1-0 success at Bramall Lane against Brentford. The goal was the first scored by McAtee in the Premier League, and means that he has now been directly involved in 12 goals across all competitions in 2023.
Wilder would have been most pleased that the Blades were able to keep their first clean sheet of the season. It was an important victory for the club, as it ensures that they remain within four points of safety. An unlikely away win could be massive for their chances of survival this weekend.
Chelsea have picked up victories in three of their last four matches against the Blues across all competitions. That includes a 2-1 success at Bramall Lane on their most recent visit in February 2021. United’s only win in four against Chelsea was recorded at home in July 2020.
Chelsea will need to be much better than they were in their previous match if they are to record maximum points this weekend. However, a chance could be taken on the points being shared at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
