Title chasing Chelsea are back in Premier League action on Thursday evening, as they look to go back top of the league standings. The visitors to Stamford Bridge this week are Everton, who are struggling for wins at this stage, as the pressure on Rafael Benitez continues to build.
Premier League Preview
It has been a sticky couple of weeks for Thomas Tuchel and his Chelsea side, as they have just about got the results that they need to stay in the title challenge. However, they have dropped from top to third in the space of a couple of weeks, having won just twice in their previous four fixtures, while both Manchester City and Liverpool have picked up five straight victories.
Chelsea were fortunate to have got a win in their last league fixture, as they needed a late winner from the penalty spot to get past Leeds United. Jorginho scored his second penalty of the game in the 94th minute of that game, but the decision by the referee irked Leeds players’. The Whites thought they had taken a point from the game when they equalised in the 83rd minute, but late winners have long been a trademark of potential champions.
Rafael Benitez is under intense pressure to turn Everton’s fortunes around this season, as the Toffees are moving closer to the relegation places with every passing week. They come into this game in 14th in the league standings, but just seven points clear of the drop zone. Many fans would have been hoping for a European challenge this season.
Everton have lost four of their last five games, and have won once in their last ten Premier League fixtures. The Toffees were beaten easily on Sunday afternoon, as Crystal Palace sailed towards three points, winning 3-1 at Selhurst Park.
Chelsea vs Everton Head to Head
Chelsea have an exceptionally strong home record against Everton, as they are unbeaten in their last 26 home league fixtures. They have won 15 of these fixtures, while eleven have ended in draws. You need to go way back to November 1994 for Everton’s last victory at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea vs Everton Prediction
Everton’s poor recent run of form, coupled with their extremely weak record against the Blues, makes this a hard game to side with them getting the three points. Therefore, many will consider this game to be a home banker.
