Real Sociedad will be bidding to put a turbulent run of form behind them when they return to action in La Liga this weekend. Sociedad will be on the road on Saturday, as they come up against a Celta Vigo side that have lost just once in their last five.
It has been a challenging period of the 2023-24 season for Real Sociedad, but they will be looking to get their campaign back on track this weekend when they travel to Celta Vigo. Sociedad come into the weekend sitting sixth in the standings after failing to win in each of their last four matches in the competition.
That run of form leaves them sitting nine points off the Champions League places, having played a game more than Barcelona. Sociedad’s unbeaten run of four matches was ended in their previous match, as they had no answer for an in-form Athletic Bilbao. The hosts scored twice inside the opening 42 minutes, before Sociedad threatened a late comeback in the final minutes after pulling one back. However, it would be hard to argue that they deserved anything from the fixture.
Celta Vigo should be in good confidence coming into this latest round of matches in La Liga, as they have lost just once in their last five matches. That positive run of results has lifted the team up to 16th in the standings, and they are now two points clear of the relegation places.
Celta have gone two without defeat in the top-flight, and they come into this weekend after picking up a draw in their previous match against Mallorca. Iago Aspas opened the scoring for Celta in that fixture, but they were pegged back by their rivals in the closing seconds of the opening half.
The previous two matches between these sides have ended in 1-1 draws. That includes a tie in the previous encounter between the teams this term. Sociedad are unbeaten in their last seven matches against Celta, winning on five occasions over that period.
Sociedad are in desperate need of a return to form, as another defeat this weekend will send them tumbling down the standings. We expect an improved effort by the Spanish side on Saturday, and we could see them edging to a narrow 1-0 success on the road.
