Atletico Madrid will be hoping to continue their fine recent run of form in Spain this weekend. Diego Simeone’s side has gone four without defeat in La Liga, and will be looking to extend their advantage inside the Champions League spots. However, Celta Vigo will have the home advantage, as they bid to record a third straight victory.
It was a nervy start to the La Liga season for Atletico Madrid, but the Spanish giants now appear to be back on track. Atletico has gone four without defeat in La Liga, and currently sit three points above Rayo Vallecano in the race for the fourth Champions League spot. However, draws continue to be an issue for Simeone’s side, as they have been held in two of their previous four matches in Spain.
The latest of those came last weekend, as they threw away maximum points in the final ten minutes against Getafe. Angel Correa had fired Atletico ahead in that home fixture after 60 minutes, but Getafe levelled the scores with their only shot on target in the final ten minutes.
Celta Vigo remain in the bottom half of the standings at present, and they remain far from safety in La Liga this term. At present, they sit just four points above the bottom three. However, their recent form has been extremely encouraging, as they have picked up victories in three of their last five games. A third straight win this weekend could lift them up to eleventh in the standings.
Celta claimed a dramatic win in their previous fixture in the league, as they came out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Real Betis. Gabri Veiga scored twice in that fixture, before the crucial fourth goal to claim the points was netted by Joseph Aldoo in the 70th minute.
Atletico has claimed victories in each of the previous three fixtures between these sides. Meanwhile, they have gone eight without defeat against Celta Vigo. Atletico were fine 4-1 winners in the previous meeting between the sides this season.
Celta Vigo’s recent form is a big bonus coming into this fixture, but they have historically struggled for wins against Atletico. Therefore, we will be siding with the away side getting back to winning ways on Sunday.
