Real Madrid’s grip on the La Liga title already appears to be over as they sit 13 points off Barcelona after 28 rounds of fixtures. They will be looking to avoid a second straight league defeat this weekend when they visit Cadiz.
While Real Madrid’s aim at the start of the season would have been to successfully defend their La Liga title, it would appear as though they face a struggle to finish at least second at this stage. They come into this round of fixtures sitting just two points clear of Atletico Madrid, as they have lost two of their previous three, and have also just claimed two victories over their last five league matches.
Their recent run of form would certainly be a concern for favourite backers this weekend, as the Spanish champions have now lost five games in 28 this term, which is the most losses that they have suffered at this stage of the campaign since the 2018-19 season. However, Madrid does boast an excellent record against teams from Andalusian, as they are unbeaten in eleven visits.
It could be argued Cadiz actually come into this fixture in better form than their illustrious rivals. The hosts this weekend have lost just once in their previous five. However, they remain locked in the battle to avoid relegation, as they sit just four points clear of the bottom three positions in the league standings.
Wins have been slightly harder to come by for Cadiz, as they have picked up just one in their last five, and seven across 28 games all season. However, they did pick up a victory in their previous match. Therefore, they will be looking for back-to-back wins on Saturday for the first time since May 2021.
Cadiz has a fairly good record in the previous matches between the sides, as they have avoided defeat in three of the last five. But, Real Madrid has lost on just one from their last 12 away matches against Cadiz since suffering back-to-back defeats in 1977 and 1981.
I would be prepared to take an outside bet on Cadiz or Draw on the double chance market for this fixture on Saturday. Real’s recent league form has been underwhelming, and Carlo Ancelotti may opt to rest a number of his key players ahead of next week’s return leg in the Champions League against Chelsea.
