Two of the teams in the relegation battle in La Liga lock horns on Friday evening, with a win for either likely to be enough to send them toward the middle of the standings. Cadiz will have home advantage when they host Getafe, but which side looks best placed to edge clear of the bottom three?
Cadiz will be looking to move clear of the bottom three places in the La Liga standings this week, as they look to extend their unbeaten sequence in the Spanish top-flight to three matches. At present, they sit a point clear of the bottom three places, but a victory could see them end this upcoming round of fixtures in the lofty position of 12th in the overall standings.
Cadiz continued their decent streak in La Liga over the weekend, as they played out an uneventful 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad. It was a game of very few chances, which was a testament to the performance put in by the Cadiz defensive line, as they allowed Sociedad just three shots on target. They will need to play more on the front foot this weekend.
Getafe sits in the place directly below Cadiz in the league standings, as they are outside of the bottom three on goal difference at present. However, their recent form is at least encouraging, as they have lost just once in their last five matches in La Liga. They landed a second win in three matches in their previous match.
That success came in the form of a dramatic 3-2 home win against Girona on Saturday. Enes Unal was in excellent form in front of goal, as he scored twice inside the opening 15 minutes. A third was added before the break by Borja Mayoral.
Each of the previous two La Liga meetings between these sides have ended in draws. However, Getafe has picked up two La Liga wins in five meetings against Cadiz, including an away win in December 2020.
Getafe’s recent form is extremely interesting coming into this fixture on Friday. Cadiz was excellent defensively in their previous match, but we think that the game will open up more this weekend as they try and play on the front foot, which could set up perfectly for the visitors.
