The eyes will be on the bottom of the La Liga standings this weekend, as two sides threatened with relegation lock horns. Cadiz sit just above the drop zone with two rounds of matches to play, while Celta Vigo are just two points above the bottom three.
There will be intense pressure on both Cadiz and Celta Vigo this weekend, as a victory for either side will be vital to their chances of remaining of staying in the top-flight. Cadiz will have the additional pressure, as this will be their final home match of the season, and they are closer to the two sides to the bottom of the table. The hosts have lost three of their last five matches, and they are only outside of the relegation places on goal difference.
Cadiz wasn’t able to back up their win last weekend in the midweek round of matches, as they fell to an away 2-0 loss against Villarreal. Both goals were scored in the opening half by the hosts, and Cadiz failed to lay a glove on their rivals in the second period.
Despite sitting 14th in the standings, Celta Vigo are still not safe from the threat of relegation this term. They come into this match in extremely poor form, as they have lost four of their previous five matches. Defeats in each of their last two matches could see them vulnerable to dropping into the bottom three places.
They were at least able to end their losing sequence in midweek, as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Girona. Their only goal in the tie was netted by Carles Perez. However, there will be pressure on Celta to get something out of this match, as their final fixture of the season comes against Barcelona.
Celta Vigo landed a 3-0 win in the reverse clash between the sides this season. However, that success ended a three-game winless run against Cadiz. Interestingly, two of the last four matches between these sides have resulted in nervy 0-0 draws.
There will be high stakes between these sides when they lock horns this weekend. Cagey draws have been a common occurrence when these sides have clashed, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see another 0-0 tie this weekend.
