Alaves will make their return to the top-flight in Spain after bouncing back to La Liga at the first attempt last term. They face a winnable match on the opening weekend, as they come up against a Cadiz side that struggled for long periods in 2022-23.
There will be a welcome sight in La Liga on Monday, as Alaves make their return to the Spanish top-flight. They were relegated to the second tier at the end of the 2021-22 season after finishing bottom of the standings, but they were able to bounce back in fine fashion by landing promotion through the playoffs. It will be a big season for Luis Garcia Plaza’s side, as their big aim will be to remain in the top-flight.
They have invested in the team throughout the summer, with the additions of Nikolas Maras and Ander Guevara certainly strengthening the spine of the team. Alaves also enjoyed a decent pre-season, which includes a 2-1 victory over Racing Santander, but they will need a big performance on the road on Monday.
Cadiz eventually finished the 2022-23 season in 14th place in the overall standings, but their top-flight status was under pressure over the final month of the campaign. Ultimately, they were able to finish two points above the drop zone, and further will be expected under Sergio Gonzalez this season.
They have added players at either end of the pitch this summer, with striker Darwin Machis joining on a loan deal from Valladolid, and Lucas Pires joining the defence against Cadiz on a loan deal from Santos. They enjoyed a solid pre-season after registering victories against Barbate and Espanyol without conceding a goal.
Cadiz landed a 1-0 win in the previous La Liga clash between the sides in May 2022. That was their second win in four matches against their Spanish rivals. However, Alaves will take confidence from the fact that they picked up a 2-0 win on their last trip to Cadiz.
Both these sides are likely to be battling for points at the wrong end of the La Liga standings this season. However, we are slightly more optimistic about the chances of Alaves, and we can see them kicking off their return to the top-flight with an away win.
