It has been a miserable start to the new Premier League season for Manchester United, and there will be pressure on the Red Devils when they travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley this weekend.
The pressure is gradually increasing on Erik ten Hag, as Man United have been unable to kick on following a largely impressive campaign last term. However, they will be largely expected to gain maximum points this weekend, and end a two-game losing run in the Premier League.
United have been far too easy to beat over the opening weeks of the season, as they have already lost three of their opening five matches. They have allowed ten goals across the matches that they have played, and United have scored just six times. Their problems were clear to all at Old Trafford last weekend, as they were brushed aside by Brighton & Hove Albion to suffer a first home loss since the opening day of last season.
Burnley will see this fixture as an ideal opportunity to get a first league home win of the season. The Clarets currently sit in the bottom three places in the Premier League standings after they have lost three of their opening four matches this term. Burnley have allowed 12 goals already this term, which is the most of any side in the Premier League.
However, they were able to end a three-game losing run in their first match following the international break, as they played out a 1-1 draw at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest. Zeki Amdouni opened the scoring in that fixture, but Forest hit back in the second half. The Clarets will be without Lyle Foster, who was sent off in the 94th minute on Monday.
Man United have won four of the previous five clashes between these sides across all competitions. However, they were held to a 1-1 draw on their most recent visit to Turf Moor in February 2022. Burnley have won just twice in 16 Premier League fixtures against United.
The pressure will be on the Red Devils this weekend, and we expect to see a response. Therefore, we could see United getting over the line to land a victory, but it may not be the most awe-inspiring display.
