It will be the battle of the claret and blue at Turf Moor on Sunday, as Aston Villa collide with Burnley. This will one by Burnley’s second match of the season, while Villa will be looking for a second straight win after an impressive display against Everton.
A lot was expected of Aston Villa before a ball was kicked this season, and they faltered to deceive on the opening day after being rolled over by Newcastle. However, they got back on track with an impressive display in their opening home match of the season against Everton.
Unai Emery’s side were in complete control from minute one against the Toffees, and safely secured a 4-0 win in front of their home fans. Two efforts were netted in the opening 45 minutes by Douglas Luiz and John McGinn, before Leon Bailey and Jhon Duran extended the advantage in the second period. The victory was their eighth straight home win in the Premier League, matching a record that was set in February 1990. Over their excellent period at Villa Park, they have allowed just two goals.
Burnley find themselves toward the bottom of the Premier League standings, as they haven’t been in action since the opening night of the season. Their clash with Luton on matchday one was postponed as the hosts requested the cancellation to complete updates to Kenilworth Road.
Due to that, the Clarets sit toward the bottom of the standings coming into this match, as they were easily beaten by Manchester City on the opening night. It was an opening night for Burnley, as they were ruthlessly punished by the champions after making defensive mistakes. They will also be without Anass Zaroury on Sunday, as he was sent off in the opener.
Aston Villa have won two of the previous five clashes between these sides, which includes a win at Turf Moor on their most recent visit in May 2022. The latest clash also came in May 2022, with the points shared following a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.
Villa was excellent in their second match of the season, but they will likely be asked more questions at Turf Moor this weekend. However, we don’t expect them to have any issues, and we will be siding with the away side landing maximum points.
