Hungary could secure their spot at the EUROs next summer on Thursday when they travel to Bulgaria. A victory for the away side will see them top the Group G standings, and it could also be enough to secure top spot in the table.
It has been an excellent qualification campaign for Hungary over the last 12 months, as they have bounced back to form in very impressive fashion. They look on course to secure their passage through to the EUROs during this upcoming international break, as they currently boast a six-point advantage over third-placed Montenegro.
A point will be enough for the visitors this week, but a victory could secure their position as Group G winners. Hungary have gone six qualifiers without defeat, winning on four occasions. They boast an excellent defensive record, having allowed just four goals across their matches. Hungary haven’t suffered a defeat over the last 12 months, but they will be looking to bounce back after being held to draws in two of their previous three internationals.
Bulgaria have been one of the biggest disappointments in Group G, as they have already been eliminated from finishing in the top two spots. However, they will have the added insurance of having a playoff in the new year if they are to reach the major tournament in Germany next summer.
The European nation will be very disappointed with their performances in Group G over the last 12 months, as they have failed to win in their six matches. They have netted just three goals, and have conceded ten times. Bulgaria’s recent form would also be a huge concern, as they have lost each of their previous four.
Hungary boasts an impressive record in this fixture, as they have won 14 of the previous 27 meetings between the sides. Over the same period, Bulgaria have recorded just seven wins. Hungary have won each of the previous two, which includes a fine 3-0 success over their rivals in March.
Hungary will be playing with little pressure on Thursday, as they require just a point to reach the EUROs. We fully expect them to secure their place at EURO 2024 this week by landing maximum points on the road against Bulgaria. A victory could be picked up with a 3-1 scoreline.
