Two sides that will be looking to get back on track in the Premier League will lock horns this weekend. Brighton and Newcastle were both beaten last weekend, but which side will land maximum points on the south coast in Saturday’s late game?
Brighton had started the new season in excellent fashion with wins over Luton and Wolves. However, they were brought crashing back down to earth last weekend, as they were beaten handsomely by West Ham United at the Amex. But, the Seagulls will be looking to get back on track this weekend when they welcome Newcastle to town.
Brighton looked very suspect defensively last weekend, as West Ham were able to break down their defence with ease throughout the second half. The only moment to cheer about from a Seagulls perspective came in the 81st minute as Pascal Gross scored an excellent goal. However, they will need to be stronger defensively and more clinical in the final third against Newcastle this weekend.
Newcastle United will also be looking for a response this weekend, as they were left shell shocked in the final minutes against Liverpool last weekend. The Reds scored twice in the final ten minutes to shockingly record all three points, despite playing the majority of the match with ten men.
Newcastle only had themselves to blame in that fixture, as they appeared to be coasting to maximum points after Anthony Gordon’s opener in the 25th minute. However, defensive mistakes cost them in the closing stages, as the Magpies suffered a second straight defeat in the Premier League. A response will be needed by Eddie Howe’s side this weekend against a tricky opponent.
Newcastle have an excellent recent record in this fixture, as they are unbeaten in their last four against the Seagulls. However, both of their two wins over that period were secured at St. James’ Park. The most recent of those was a 4-1 win in May 2023. However, this exact fixture last term ended in a goalless draw.
Newcastle’s recent record in this fixture deserves respect. However, the Magpies are yet to win at the Amex in the Premier League, and that would be a concern. Therefore, a good betting angle could be on the draw, as these two sides have played out ties on six occasions since 2017.
