A place in the FA Cup final will be up for grabs at Wembley on Sunday, as Manchester United and Brighton lock horns. Both clubs will have their sights set on winning the world’s most prestigious domestic cup competition, but which side will book their date with destiny?
Sunday will be a huge date in the history of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, as they aim to reach just a second FA Cup final in their history. Their best showing since reaching the showpiece event came back in 2018-19, as they reached the final four before being eliminated. However, there is certainly a sense that the Seagulls deserve a piece of silverware this term based on the performances that they have put in throughout the campaign.
Brighton has overcame a number of challenges to reach this stage of the competition, which includes a victory over last year’s winner Liverpool in the fourth round. The Seagulls booked their spot in the semi-finals with a 5-0 home success against Grimsby Town. However, Evan Ferguson, who scored twice that day, is a doubt for Sunday’s clash with United.
Man United remain in the hunt for three trophies this season, as they look to add the FA Cup and Europa League to the EFL Cup that they have already picked up. United last reached this stage of the competition in 2019-20, while they last won the competition in 2015-16.
The Red Devils have progressed through the competition strongly, with all previous matches being played at Old Trafford. Interestingly, United has won all previous games in the FA Cup by a 3-1 scoreline. They reached the semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Fulham.
Brighton has won each of their previous two matches against Man United, which included a 2-1 success on the opening day of the 2022-23 season. The previous match between the two in the FA Cup took place in March 2018, with United landing a 2-0 win.
This could be a thrilling semi-final clash at Wembley on Sunday, and cases can be made for both sides. However, with United needing to overcome defensive issues, we could see Brighton booking their spot in the FA Cup final with a 3-1 win.
