Brighton will be looking to continue their decent recent form in the Premier League when they host Burnley at Falmer Stadium on Saturday. Meanwhile, Burnley will be looking for a response after falling to a fourth defeat in five in midweek.
Brighton appear to be back on the right track after a shaky period in the Premier League, which saw them fail to win in six. They come into the weekend after winning twice in their previous three, and they could move up to fifth in the league standings if they claim maximum points this weekend.
There will also be pressure on Burnley this weekend, as the Clarets have been unable to enhance their chances of survival this term after falling to a midweek defeat. That loss sees them remain in the bottom three positions in the standings, and they are now two points adrift from safety.
Brighton managed to get back on track at home in midweek, with their win over Brentford being their first success at Falmer Stadium since September. However, their overall record in home matches remains strong, as they have lost just one of their last 12 in the Premier League against newly promoted sides. Over that period, they have recorded five wins and been held to six draws.
The Clarets will need to improve their performances against established Premier League sides, as they have won just twice in their last 19 in the league, with both victories coming against sides that were promoted alongside them last term. Brighton’s record in 3pm kick offs also deserves respect, as they have lost just once in eight Premier League matches in the standard Saturday slot.
Draws have been a prominent outcome when these sides have clashed in the Premier League, with five of the ten meetings ended level. Brighton have recorded two victories, while the Clarets have recorded three wins. Interestingly, three of the ten matches between the sides in the top flight have ended in 0-0 draws.
While 0-0 draws have been a common outcome in this fixture, that doesn’t look to be a solid selection this weekend given Brighton’s record at both ends of the field. Therefore, we will be siding with the Seagulls landing a dominant home win in front of their own fans.
