Two of the quick starters in Ligue 1 will lock horns in France’s top tier on Saturday. Both Brest and Rennes currently sit in the top six spots in the league standings, and both will be looking to continue their excellent run of form on Saturday.
Brest will be the side with home field advantage this weekend, as they bid to bounce back after suffering a first defeat of the new season last weekend. However, despite that setback, they remain fourth in the current standings after a strong opening two weeks of the season, which saw them pick up back-to-back wins.
But, that early season momentum was ended on Saturday, as they suffered a 2-0 loss on the road against Marseille. Brest played well enough to pick up a point in that fixture, but their rivals took the game away from them with goals at crucial stages. Brest dominated the possession in the match, and they registered an impressive seven shots on target. Their performance would still highlight that there is more to come this season.
Rennes sit down in sixth after three rounds of matches in Ligue 1 this term, but they are one of the few sides that still boast an unbeaten record at this stage of the campaign. They come into this match after being held to draws in each of their last two matches. But, a victory this weekend could take them into the top three.
Rennes played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in their most recent fixture, as there was nothing to separate themselves and Le Harve. The Rennes goals in that tie both came inside the opening 25 minutes, with Ludovic Blas opening the scoring, before Christopher Wooh doubled the advantage. However, they let their rivals back into the match.
Brest have recorded just one win in their last 17 matches against Rennes, with the visitors this weekend having landed eleven wins over the same period. Rennes have won each of the last three clashes between the sides, while Brest are winless in 13 since a 2-0 home win in April 2011.
Brest don’t have the best record in this fixture, but it is hard to ignore their excellent start to the new season. Therefore, we will be siding with the hosts picking up a rare win over their rivals in Ligue 1 this weekend.
