The attention will be on the bottom of the Premier League standings this weekend when Brentford welcome Sheffield United to town. Both of these sides will desperately require maximum points to enhance their chances of staying in the top-flight this term.
The race to stay in the Premier League this season is into the final stages, and there is little separating the sides that are battling for important points. Brentford will be looking to get their season back on track this weekend after failing to win in their last five league fixtures. Furthermore, the Bees have recorded just seven victories all season, which means only the bottom three have picked up fewer.
But, their form has improved slightly in recent weeks, with the Bees coming into this round of matches after playing out draws in each of their last three fixtures. They produced an excellent performance to pick up a point in their most recent outing, after drawing 3-3 on the road against Aston Villa.
Sheffield United remain at the bottom of the Premier League standings at this stage of the season, and their stay in the top-flight could be just weeks away from coming to an end. The Blades have played out draws in three of their last four matches, but they have recorded a league-low of three victories this term.
But, they would have taken confidence from their most recent outing in the competition after drawing 2-2 at home against Chelsea. The Blades showed excellent character to get themselves back into that fixture, with Oli McBurnie netting the crucial equalising goal in the third minute of injury time. But, only victories will see them close the nine-point gap between themselves and safety.
Sheffield United have a very reliable record in this fixture, winning each of the last three and four of their previous five against Brentford. Brentford’s most recent success against Sheffield United was picked up in the third tier back in August 2013.
Sheffield United’s excellent record in this fixture is a really interesting trend to consider this week. But, draws have been a recurring issue for the Blades this term, and we could see the points being shared once again this weekend.
