The action in the fourth round of the FA Cup kicks off on Thursday, as Bournemouth welcome Swansea to the Vitality Stadium. It should be an entertaining clash between the sides, but could the Championship team upset the odds?
The action in the next round of the FA Cup kicks off on Thursday, with Bournemouth among the first Premier League sides in action. They will be looking for a response after suffering a 4-0 loss against Liverpool in the league over the weekend. However, the Cherries were excellent in the third round of the competition, as they eliminated QPR at Loftus Road.
Swansea will be the outsiders in the betting this week, but they could have the attacking quality to hurt their Premier League rivals on Thursday. The Swans progressed to the fourth round in very professional style at the start of January after picking up a 2-0 home win against Morecambe. Charlie Patino netted the opener, before Jerry Yates scored a second in the closing stages.
The Cherries have a poor record in the FA Cup at the Vitality against sides in a lower division. They have lost each of their last two, which includes a defeat against Championship opposition last term. But, they have won 21 of their last 29 home matches against sides from divisions lower than them.
Swansea also have a poor record in the competition against Premier League opposition after losing each of their last six. Over that period, they have conceded at least three goals per game. Their most recent win against a Premier League side was achieved against Man United when the Swans were also playing in the top-flight.
This will only be the second time that these sides have clashed in the FA Cup. The only previous clash was won 2-0 by the Cherries. Swansea are also winless in their last 12 matches against the Cherries across all competitions. Bournemouth landed a 3-2 win against the Swans in the EFL Cup earlier this season.
Both of these sides have been involved in some high scoring fixtures this season, which means that over 2.5 goals looks a reliable selection. However, we will be siding with the Cherries to progress, as they boast an excellent record against the Swans across all competitions.
