AC Milan continue their fight for a Champions League position in Serie A this weekend when they travel to Bologna. The hosts have been in fine recent form, and they will be attempting to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches.
AC Milan could drop out of the Champions League spots this weekend if they aren’t able to win a second match in six outings. The Italian giants currently sit fourth, but they are just a single point above their cross city rivals Inter. However, confidence certainly would have been gained following their midweek outing in the Champions League, as they picked up a 1-0 victory against Napoli at the San Siro.
In the league, their form has been in-and-out over the past month or so. Their big 4-0 win over Napoli is a huge standout victory, but they weren’t able to make a breakthrough last weekend in a 0-0 draw against Empoli. Milan had the better chances in that fixture, but they were wasteful in front of goal, registering 23 shots but hitting the target on just four occasions.
Bologna could yet make a late charge for a European spot in Serie A, as they sit eighth in the standings, and just five points off the top six. Their recent run of form is incredibly encouraging, as they have won each of their previous two, and have gone four without a defeat.
They come into this fixture having landed victories in their last two without conceding. Bologna hasn’t won three on the bounce without conceding in Serie A since 1973. Meanwhile, they haven’t allowed a goal in their last three matches at home. They haven’t gone longer since 2000 when they went eight at home without conceding.
Bologna has a poor record against Milan, as they are winless in their last 14. Over that run, Milan has picked up 12 wins, with two matches ending in draws. Milan has also gone 16 away matches without defeat against Bologna, winning on 12 occasions.
AC Milan’s inability to find the net in recent weeks does offer up hope for those looking to find value in the betting this weekend. Milan will also have one eye on their upcoming Champions League second leg against Napoli, meaning a draw could be a decent option.
