Borussia Dortmund made a winning return to Bundesliga action on matchday one, as they secured a comfortable home win against FC Köln. Dortmund ended the previous season in devastating fashion, as they blew their best chance in ten seasons to win the top-flight title as they were beaten at home on the final day of the campaign. 

However, they swiftly got back on track at the start of the 2023-24 season, as they landed success against Köln. It wasn’t the easiest curtain-raiser for Dortmund, as they needed to be very patient to breakdown their rivals. Bochum are also a side that will need to raise their performance levels, as they were given a stern reminder that they will need to be at their best throughout the season to remain in the top flight. The German side were handed a bruising defeat on the road by Stuttgart, as they suffered a 5-0 loss. 

Bochum offered little in the final third throughout the match, as they managed just a single shot on target in reply. The German side trailed 2-0 after 38 minutes, before they allowed three goals in the second period to cap a miserable opening afternoon in the Bundesliga.
