Two nations that are playing for nothing more than pride in EURO qualification clash on Saturday, as Belarus and Andorra will both be looking for points to ensure that they don’t finish bottom of the Group I standings.
A game with very little riding on it takes place in Group I on Saturday, as Belarus and Andorra lock horns. Both nations will be playing for nothing more than pride, as they have already been eliminated from contention of finishing in the top two places. Neither nation also has the fall back option of a playoff after disappointing Nations League performances.
Belarus will have home field advantage for this penultimate match in Group I, but they have landed just a single victory from their eight group stage matches. They have at least been slightly more difficult to beat than their rivals after playing out three draws from their eight fixtures to this point. However, they have been weak defensively, having already allowed 14 goals across their eight matches. They come into this match after drawing three of their last four.
Andorra have once again struggled in a qualification campaign, as they were the first nation to exit consideration for a place in the next round of the tournament. They have lost each of their last three in Group I, and they have picked up just two points from their eight matches.
Andorra comes into this penultimate match with the worst attacking and defensive record, having found the net on just three occasions, while they have conceded 17 times already. Their third consecutive loss was suffered in the previous international break, going down to a 4-0 defeat against Romania.
Belarus have won three of the previous five matches between these nations. The only win for Andorra in this fixture was picked up in April 2000. Since then, they have gone four without a win against their rivals. The latest clash in September saw the sides play out a 0-0 draw.
It’s challenging to have a confident play when assessing both of these sides, as neither have shown much form throughout qualification. But, it could be worth siding with the home side landing a morale-boosting success on Saturday evening.
