However, since returning from that competition, their league form has stuttered, and they haven’t picked up a win in the two games that they have played. That has allowed Leipzig to close to within two points of the reigning champions, and they could move to the top this weekend should they win their game and Bayern lose at home against FC Köln. Bayern were beaten for the third time this season in their last league game, as they were unable to recover from the 2-0 head start that they gave to Eintracht Frankfurt. It wasn’t the first time this season that Bayern have started slowly, but if it continues, then it could cost them the league title.

FC Köln will be looking for the points themselves this weekend, as they are looking to move clear of the relegation places. They currently sit three points above the relegation playoff spot, and four points above the automatic drop zone. They had been in excellent form, as they picked up three wins from four games before their two more recent fixtures. However, back-to-back defeats has dragged them back into the relegation battle this season, and are currently only where they are in the league due to the shortcomings of the teams below them.
