Barcelona can take another step toward the La Liga title on Monday, as they welcome Girona to the Nou Camp. The league leaders come into this fixture after winning each of their previous four, and they will be heavily expected to edge nearer the top prize with victory.
Barcelona could come into this fixture with a nine-point advantage over Real Madrid depending on the other scores this weekend. However, if Real fall to a shock defeat, the Catalonian giants could move 15 points clear at the top of the La Liga standings. Barcelona has been in excellent form throughout the season, and they come into this Monday showdown after winning each of their last four matches.
They were comfortable winners in their most recent fixture in the league, as they picked up a huge 4-0 win on the road against Elche. Robert Lewandowski scored twice in that success, while further efforts were added in the second period by Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres. It does appear to be a matter of when, and not if, Barcelona will win the top flight Spanish title.
Girona will be the side looking to cause a shock victory against Barcelona this weekend. The traveling side sits eleventh in the current standings, but they could move up to eighth with a victory on Monday evening. They have impressed throughout the season, but they have slightly struggled for victories over their last five.
Girona comes into this game after having won just once in their previous four league matches. But, that win did come in their previous league fixture, as they registered a 2-1 home win against Espanyol last weekend. The winning goal was scored from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, as Cristhian Stuani kept his cool.
Barcelona has dominated the previous five league matches between the sides, as they have registered four wins. That includes victories in each of the previous two. In the previous match this season, Barcelona recorded a 1-0 win. They will be aiming for back-to-back wins with clean sheets on Monday.
This looks a very tough assignment for Girona this weekend, and we struggle to see them picking up a win at the Nou Camp. We expect Barcelona to pick up a routine victory in front of their home fans, as they take another step towards being crowned Spanish champions.
