Barcelona will play their final fixture in La Liga before the international break on Sunday, as they host Alaves. The hosts could move to within a point of the top of the standings if they land maximum points.
Barcelona will be looking to put a disappointing midweek performance in the Champions League behind them on Sunday when they return to domestic action against Alaves. The Spanish giants have been largely impressive in their defence of the La Liga title to this point, as they have won eight of their opening 12 matches in the competition.
However, their recent defeat in El Clasico have given them ground to make up on the two sides above them in the standings, while a second defeat in three could allow Atletico Madrid to move into third. Barcelona come into this match after a dramatic win in their previous La Liga outing, as Ronald Araujo scored a 92nd minute winner against Real Sociedad last weekend.
Alaves will be massive outsiders in the betting to land victory this weekend, as they sit down in 14th in the current standings. They have won just three of their opening 12 matches this term, but they will be appeased by the fact that they comfortably sit clear of the bottom three spots in the league standings at this stage.
They will also take confidence from the fact that they ended a run of two defeats in four matches last weekend, as they battled to a decent win at home against Almeria. Their winning goal in that fixture was netted with just ten minutes remaining, as Aleksandar Sedlar broke the deadlock in front of his own fans.
The hosts have dominated their fixtures against Alaves in recent years, as Barcelona have won 12 of the 15 showdowns between the sides. The visitors have landed just a single win over the same period, with two matches ending in draws. Barcelona landed a 1-0 win in the most recent fixture between the sides in January 2022.
This looks to be a miss-match on paper, as Barcelona have dominated the previous encounters between the sides. We don’t expect that winning sequence to come to an end this weekend, as we fully believe that the hosts will land maximum points.
