Eintracht Frankfurt will be looking to get back on track in the Bundesliga this weekend when they travel to Augsburg. The hosts have been held to draws in each of their previous three matches in the German top-flight.
The eyes will be on the top half of the Bundesliga standings on Sunday, as two teams in the top ten will lock horns. There will be slight pressure on Eintracht Frankfurt to respond this weekend, as they have gone two matches in the competition without a victory. Meanwhile, they have recorded just one victory across their previous four matches.
That run of form has seen Frankfurt drop to seventh in the standings, and a return to winning ways is required this weekend to ensure that they have the opportunity to move into the top six. However, massive improvement is needed from the visitors after they were beaten in their previous match in the competition by Stuttgart.
Augsburg could be the preferred selection for many this weekend, as they have been very tricky to beat in the Bundesliga in recent months. That is echoed by the fact that they are unbeaten in five matches in the competition. However, draws are threatening to hinder their progression in the competition, as they have played out ties in each of their last three matches.
But, a return to winning ways on Sunday would see them move to within a point of Frankfurt in seventh place. Augsburg’s latest draw came on the road last weekend, as they succumbed to pressure against Union Berlin in the final two minutes. Ermedin Demirovic had opened the scoring in that draw for the visitors after 39 minutes.
Draws have been a very common outcome when these sides have clashed in the Bundesliga, with three of the last four ending level. That includes a 1-1 draw in the latest match between the sides in April. Meanwhile, Augsburg are winless in their last seven against Frankfurt since a 2-1 win in September 2019.
Augsburg’s poor record in this fixture would be a huge concern this weekend, as wins against Frankfurt have been hard to come by. However, we could see that long wait for a victory against their rivals coming to an end, with the preference for the home side.
