The overall recent record matches up very evenly, as there have been nine wins for both Atletico and Villarreal, as well as nine drawn matches between these two sides. Villarreal comes into this match after going four without defeat against Atletico, but their only win over that period was a 2-0 success in this exact fixture last term.
