Atletico Madrid will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season this weekend as they welcome Real Betis to the Spanish capital.
Atletico Madrid are the only team left standing with an unbeaten record in La Liga. They are yet to lose in any of their four games in La Liga this term, as they have won twice and drawn twice. They have scored an impressive eight goals and conceded just the one. Diego Simeone’s side ended a run of two straight 0-0 draws in their last league match, as they secured a hard-fought 2-0 win against Celta Vigo.
Luis Suarez was once again on the scoresheet in that win, as he has now taken his tally to three in four games for the club since arriving from Barcelona. It was a controlled performance by the away side, but the win wasn’t assured until the closing moments as Yannick Carrasco made sure of the three points. It was far from a vintage display, but they did get the job done.
Real Betis have been one of the most unpredictable teams in La Liga this season, as they have won three and lost three. They have failed to find any kind of momentum at this early stage of the season, and will come into this game having won just once in their last three. That victory came against Valencia, as Sergio Canales and Cristian Tello goals secured a 2-0 win. However, they were beaten last time out against Real Sociedad 3-0. It was a disappointing performance by Betis in that match, and they will have to be much more solid defensively in this fixture against Atletico if they are to get anything from the game.
Atletico have won two of the previous three against Betis, as they also completed the double against their opponents last season. They won the home game against Betis 1-0 when the sides met in July. Betis’ last win against Atletico came back in February 2019.
Atletico haven’t started the season in the consistency that you would expect from a title chasing side, but they will still have too much for Betis in this fixture. They should be able to get a comfortable win at home, with Suarez once again among the goalscorers.
