Bilbao’s most realistic chance of a European finish will come in the Europa Conference League spot, but they are just a point clear of Girona.
Bilbao were at least able to get back on track last weekend, as they ended a four-game winless run with a victory. It remains to be seen how significant that victory over Celta Vigo will be, but it has at least kept them in the hunt.
Elche’s race has already been run this season, and they will be counting down the days until the end of the season. Their relegation was confirmed a few weeks ago, but their results have certainly improved with no pressure on their shoulders. They come into this fixture after going three without a defeat for the first time this season.
However, they have been held to draws in each of their last two, which includes a midweek tie against Sevilla. A lot of positives would have been taken from that display, and they will be hoping to cause a huge shock in La Liga this weekend.
Bilbao comes into this fixture after winning their last two against Elche. That includes a 4-1 away win in the previous meeting between the sides this season. Elche has landed just one win in six attempts against Bilbao, with that success coming at home in May 2021.
Elche’s performance levels have certainly improved now that they have nothing to play for, but this will be a big task on the road this weekend. Still, we could see them getting a favourable result, with a draw being our pick.
