There will be an interesting fixture in Serie A this weekend as Atlanta will be looking to get back to winning ways when they welcome Sampdoria to town. But, will they be able to get the win?
Atalanta will handed a blow in their top four hopes this season this past weekend as they suffered a first defeat of the Serie A season. They were beaten 4-1 by Napoli, and it’s fair to say that it was one of the worst performances that we have seen by Atalanta for some time.
Napoli were superior across the field, and were 4-0 ahead at half-time. Atalanta did improve in the second half, and managed to score a consolation goal through Sam Lammers. However, there will need to be response from Atalanta coming into this fixture, as they were despondent in that game. Before the defeat against Napoli, Atalanta had won all three games in Serie A, as they scored 13 goals. That attacking threat was missing against Napoli, but it will likely be back on show this weekend against Sampdoria.
Meanwhile, Sampdoria have improved after a slow start to the season, as they have won their previous two in Serie A. They started the season with two straight defeats, but their previous two games being wins would mean that they will come into this fixture with newfound confidence.
The wins that they have achieved over recent weeks have come against Fiorentina and Lazio. The latter of those wins was their most recent outing, as they ran out 3-0 winners. Sampdoria’s goals in that win were scored by Fabio Quagilarella, Tommaso Augello and Mikkel Damsgaard. However, backing those two wins up with a third could be a challenging prospect for Sampdoria.
Sampdoria haven’t beaten Atalanta in the previous three fixtures between the sides. Atalanta won the most recent meeting 2-0, while Sampdoria haven’t won away from home against their opponents this weekend since 2015. Sampdoria’s last win of any description against Atalanta came in October 2018.
Atalanta’s last outing in Serie A was a disappointing performance, but we fully expect them to bounce back to winning ways against Sampdoria this weekend. There is goals all around the Atalanta team, and their opponents this weekend will not be able to keep them quiet.
