Lazio finally managed to topple Juventus on the table and lead on the top. They have joined La Vecchia Signora and La Beniamata in the current title race of Serie A. Simone Inzaghi’s men really take the advantage of their rival’s fixture difficulty which prevents them from playing their games due to the rise of COVID-19 danger in Italy. This week, Lazio will be up against Atalanta, the most promising dark horse in Serie A in the past two years. It will be a decisive clash for both to secure their position in the UCL zone.
After the postponed fixture two weeks ago, Atalanta was back on the field with a big win while visiting Lecce. They hammered the host 7-2. The host’s own goal opened the score sheet followed by Duvan Zapata’s hattrick, plus Josip Illicic’s, Luis Muriel’s and Ruslan Marinovsky’s goal meddled by Lecce’s equalizer at the first half by Riccardo Saponara and Guilio Donati.
Lazio, on the other hand, carried on sealing three points after smashing Bologna 2-0. The former Liverpool man, Luis Alberto scored an opener plus provided an assist for Joaquin Correa’s goal.
Gian Piero Gasperini is mainly in favor of a three-defender system such as 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1. He relies on the Slovenian Josip Illicic or the Colombian internationals Luis Muriel or Duvan Zapata as the main scorer. They are mostly given the role of a lone striker supported by Papu Gomez as the number 10.
Simone Inzaghi has employed 3-5-2 most of the time or sometimes 3-5-1-1 since his first day as a manager in Lazio. He counts on the Italian international Ciro Immobile. This former Torino and Borussia Dortmund frontman is accompanied by the Argentinean Joaquin Correa as the second striker.
In Atalanta’s current squad, the captain Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez is certainly the most experienced key figure of the team. He has scored six goals and provided ten assists in Serie A only. Other notable names here are Duvan Zapata, the Slovenia attacking midfielder, Joseph Illicic, with his fifteen goals and five assists so far.
Lazio’s key figures this season are definitely Ciro Immobile with his twenty-seven goals and seven assists, Luis Alberto with four goals and twelve assists and Joaquin Correa with seven goals and one assist. Another notable one is the Serbian international, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Visiting Bergamo has always been tricky for most teams in Serie A, not to mention that Atalanta is the current most offensive team this season by scoring seventy goals so far. Therefore, Ciro Immobile and Co need to be cautious against the deadly counterattack of Gasperini’s men. A goal galore draw seems to be the plausible final result.
The host is certainly a slight favorite in this game. Their odds to win are at 2.10 whereas the draw result is lower, which is at 3.70. Biancoceleste is projected to win at 3.30.
