Aston Villa will be looking to maintain their momentum with a second straight win in the Premier League this weekend. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace will be bidding to end a run of form that has seen them draw five of their last six.

Premier League Preview

Aston Villa could yet achieve an excellent end to the season, as they have a favourable run of fixtures over their next six, beginning with a home showdown against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Unai Emery’s side currently sits tenth in the standings, but they could rise into the top half of the standings with a victory over the Eagles. They were in great form in front of goal last week, as they ended a three-game losing run with victory against Everton.

In truth, there was very little between the two sides in that fixture, with Villa just having additional quality in the final third. Ollie Watkins opened the scoring, and in the process, he became the first Villa player to score in five straight Premier League games. The points were wrapped up in the final ten minutes as Emi Buendia capped off an impressive cameo with a goal.

Crystal Palace is still a side that I fear for in the Premier League, as they could easily get dragged back into the relegation scrap. The Eagles sit 12th in the standings, but they are six clear of the bottom three. Most worryingly, they don’t seem interested in winning games since the World Cup, as they have picked up five draws from their last six matches.

The Eagles would have been happy enough with their performance against Liverpool in their previous fixture, but a 0-0 draw once again shows their clear limitations in front of goal. Only the bottom four in the standings have won fewer games than Palace this term.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Head to Head

Palace comes into this fixture having gone two without defeat against Villa. They have also lost just once in their last four. However, they are without an away win against the Midlands side since December 2013, meaning that they have gone five without a victory at Villa Park.

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Villa looked very dangerous in the final third in their latest match against Everton, and we would expect them to pose serious questions of Palace this weekend. We can see the hosts claiming victory by a 2-0 scoreline.
