Aston Villa’s push for a finish in the top four positions in the Premier League continues this weekend, as the Midlands club bid to record a second victory in three matches. Brentford will also have pressure on their shoulders, as they chase an important victory to move clear of the relegation places.
Aston Villa’s fate is now out of their hands, as their position in the top four will be determined based on how Tottenham perform in their game in hand. The Midlands club remains fourth at this stage of the season, as they have recorded 18 wins from their 31 matches this term. But, their midweek defeat against Man City means that they are just two points ahead of Tottenham.
Brentford will also have something to prove this weekend, as the Bees remain locked in a battle for points at the bottom of the standings. They come into this match sitting 15th, but they have recorded just seven victories all season. At present, their advantage over the bottom three stands at six points, and confidence would have been gained from their recent draws against Man United and Brighton.
Villa have rarely played in the 3pm kick-off slot this term due to their European commitments in the Conference League. However, they have been excellent in the traditional kick-off slot throughout 2023-24 after winning all four of their matches in the league. Their fixtures throughout the season in this slot have been entertaining, with an average of 4.5 goals per game being scored.
Brentford’s issues this term have stemmed from their record on the road. The Bees have lost nine of their last ten on the road in the Premier League, with their only victory over that period coming on their last trip to the West Midlands when landing a 2-0 success at Wolves.
Villa have landed victories in two of their last three league matches against Brentford after previously going eight without a success. Meanwhile, the Bees have never won an away league fixture at Villa Park, losing on three visits to the home of Villa.
Villa were below their best at the Etihad in midweek, but a number of first-team stars could be welcomed back on Saturday. Therefore, it appears worthwhile to side with Unai Emery’s team landing maximum points at Villa Park against the Bees.
