For the fourth time in the Europa Conference League this season, AS Roma and Bodo/Glimt clash. It has been advantage to the Norwegian side in the previous meetings, but Jose Mourinho will be hoping that his big game experience can help the Serie A giants progress.
One of the stories of the Europa Conference League this season has been the emerging rivalry between Roma and Bodo/Glimt. The two sides clashed in the group stages of the competition, with the Serie A giants progressing as group winners despite failing to pick up a victory against the club for Norway.
One of Mourinho’s most embarrassing results in his career came in the group stages, as Roma were hammered 6-1 by the minnows in Norway. However, they were able to produce a much better display in the first leg between the sides, as the Italian side were only narrowly beaten 2-1. That still see Bodo/Glimt come into this fixture with something to defend, though.
Roma took the lead in the first leg between the sides, as Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring after 43 minutes. However, the Norwegian side weren’t to be denied another famous victory in this memorable European campaign, as Ulrik Saltnes levelled the scores, before Huge Vetlesen won the game for the hosts with just a minute remaining of the 90.
Roma do come into this fixture after a big win in the league last time out, as they managed to score twice in the final ten minutes to see off Salernitana. The winning goal was scored by Chris Smalling with five minutes remaining. Bodo/Glimt also scored a late winner in their previous league fixture, with Saltnes scoring the decisive goal after 76 minutes.
This is the fourth meeting between these sides in European competition, with all three previous meetings coming this season. AS Roma are yet to beat their Norwegian rivals, with the latest fixture at the Stadio Olimpico ending in a 2-2 draw.
This is certainly the most interesting second leg in the Europa Conference League this weekend. Bodo/Glimt have had Roma’s number throughout the season to this point, and confidence will be high that they will reach the next round. However, I expect Mourinho to have a plan, and can see Roma progressing with a 2-0 victory on the night.
