AS Monaco will continue their hunt for a Champions League spot in Ligue 1 this weekend when they welcome Toulouse to town. There will be pressure on the visitors to pick up points, as they currently sit just a point clear of the bottom three.
It has been a steady season to this point for Monaco, as they are on course to achieve a finish in the Champions League spots. However, it could be a fascinating race for a spot in the top three, as they are just a point clear of fourth-place Brest. But, they come into this round after suffering just one defeat in their last five matches in Ligue 1.
However, wins have also been slightly rare over that period of recent form, with maximum points being picked up on just two occasions. Regardless, they come into this weekend after going three without a defeat. Monaco picked up a fine 3-2 success in their most recent fixture in the league, with Aleksandr Golovkin netting the winner with just over ten minutes remaining.
Questions will also need to be answered by Toulouse this weekend, as their long-term future in the top flight is far from assured at this stage of the season. At present, they sit 14th in Ligue 1, but they are just a point clear of the relegation playoff spot. Their form has been inconsistent throughout the season, and that will need to change.
Over their last five games, Toulouse has picked up two wins and three defeats, with their most recent outing in the competition ending in defeat against Nantes last weekend. A return to winning ways this weekend could see them end the round as high as 12th.
Monaco have an excellent record in this fixture after winning four of their last five against Toulouse. That includes a 2-1 success in the reverse fixture earlier this season. However, they haven’t won a home match against their rivals since February 2019.
Monaco’s dominant record in this fixture is very challenging to oppose this weekend, and they come into this round of matches in fine recent form. Therefore, we will be keeping the faith with a home success in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
