Ligue 1 returns this weekend, as the battle for points at the top of the standings continues. AS Monaco will be hoping to reignite their chances of making a push for the title, while Reims will be aiming for maximum points in their bid to finish in a European position this term.
It has been a reliable first half to the season for AS Monaco, as they look to book their spot back in the Champions League this term. The French side comes into the latest round of matches sitting third in the standings, and they boast a two-point advantage over Brest in the race for the final Champions League spot in the current table.
However, Monaco will be aware that they will need to rediscover their consistency in the second half of the campaign after losing two of their previous five matches in the competition. But, the confidence around the camp should be high after they claimed a dramatic victory in the French Cup last weekend after beating Lens on penalties to book their spot in the next round of the competition.
Reims will be one of a number of sides in France that will be looking for a strong return to league action this weekend after they have dropped to eighth in the table after a poor run of results in the top-flight. Still, they boast every chance of forcing their way into the top four, as they sit just two points off the top five positions.
It was a challenging December period for the French side, as they lost three of their last five matches in the competition. However, victory against Dinan Lehon in the round of 64 of the French Cup last weekend means that they have now won each of their last two across all competitions.
Away wins have been a common outcome when these sides have collided, with each of the last four being won by the travelling side. Over that period, Reims have recorded two straight victories in Monaco. Meanwhile, Monaco’s last home win against Reims was recorded back in February 2014.
This hasn’t been a great fixture in France for home advantage, and that could be a trend worth following this weekend. Therefore, we will be siding with the points being shared between the sides with a draw being played out.
