There will be a captivating game in the Premier League on Tuesday evening, as league-leaders Arsenal host Newcastle United. Both sides come into this fixture in the Champions League spots, but the Toon have a dire away record against the Gunners, having lost their previous eleven.
Premier League Preview
There will be a very interesting game in the Premier League before the FA Cup break on Tuesday. Two of the teams in the race for Champions League spots will clash, as Arsenal looks to build up a ten-point advantage at the top of the standings. The Gunners have been in sensational form throughout the season, as they have won 14 of the 16 games that they have played.
That includes victories in each of their previous five Premier League fixtures. At present, they are seven points clear of Manchester City, and victory at the Emirates could stretch that advantage to ten points. Arsenal was excellent once again in their previous fixture, as they claimed a 4-2 win on the road against Brighton. Bukayo Saka set the tone with a goal inside two minutes, before Martin Odegaard, Eddie Nketiah, and Gabriel Martinelli added further goals.
Newcastle remains one of the standout teams in the Premier League this season, as they sit third in the standings. Victory at the Emirates could see them rise to second in the standings, and would also close the gap on top spot to just six points. Newcastle come into this fixture without a defeat in six, but their five-game winning run was ended in their latest fixture.
That was one of the rare Magpie disappointments of the season, as they failed to find a way through the compact Leeds United defence. Newcastle had their chances in that fixture, as they registered five shots on target, and dominated the possession. However, few would have argued against the sentiment that Leeds deserved a point from the game.
Arsenal vs Newcastle Head to Head
Arsenal boasts a dominant home record in this fixture, as they have won the previous eleven fixtures between the sides at the Emirates. However, the Toon did pick up a 2-0 win in the previous fixture between the sides at St James’ Park in May.
Arsenal vs Newcastle Prediction
It has been a fine campaign for both of these sides to this point, and there is certainly a case that can be made for both. However, we could see Newcastle once again showing how difficult they are to play against, as they pick up a hard-fought draw at the Emirates.
