Group C looks like a Europa League group that will go to the wire this term. All teams have picked up three points coming into the third round of matches, but there will be pressure on Real Betis on Thursday ahead of their fixture with Aris Limassol, as they sit bottom of the standings.
It has been a thrilling start to Group C, and all four teams involved could yet achieve qualification to the next round. Aris Limassol will be among the happiest sides at this stage of the competition, as they have picked up a victory and a defeat from their opening two matches to sit second in the Group C standings.
Real Betis will likely be the most disappointed of the sides involved at this stage, as they sit bottom of the standings. That illustrates a poor start to the group for the La Liga side, as they would have been expected to top the group standings. But, Betis at least got in the win column on the previous matchday, as they recorded a 2-1 home win against Sparta Prague.
Betis continue to boast a very strong record in the group stage of the Europa League, as they have won six of their previous eight. In fact, their only defeat over that period was suffered in their first match on the road in this season’s competition against Rangers. But, their form continues to be a solid factor in their favour.
Limassol achieved qualification to the Europa League before the start of the domestic season. But, they have been a solid performer since entering the competition, as they have averaged 2.5 goals per game across their ten fixtures in the Europa League. That average improves to 3.2 goals per game in home matches after netting 16 in five fixtures.
This will be a first for both of these sides, as Betis have never previous come up against a Cypriot opponent, while Limassol have never clashed with a Spanish side. However, Spanish clubs have landed victories in seven of the eight previous encounters between the nations.
Limassol have been very impressive in home matches in the Europa League this season, and therefore, we could see them finding the back of the net this week. However, we find it challenging to overlook Betis eventually landing maximum points to move to the top of the standings.
