Israel’s hunt for a top two finish in Group I has already come to an end, as they look set to finish third in the overall standings. However, they will be hopeful of ending their campaign on a positive note when they come up against Andorra on the final matchday on Tuesday.
Heading into the November international break, Israel appeared to be in a strong position to challenge for a finish in the top two places. However, their hopes of reaching the EUROs have already come to an end after failing to win in their previous two matches. But, they will have a second chance to reach Germany next summer, as they will have a playoff in early 2024.
Israel have now lost two of their previous three internationals, meaning that they have claimed just three victories from their nine matches in Group I. However, they have gone three without a victory, which could be damning to their chances of finishing above Kosovo in the race for third spot in the group standings.
Andorra were the first nation to exit contention for a place at the EUROs next summer, as they have long been sitting bottom of the Group I standings. The nation are yet to land victory in the group, and they have fallen to seven defeats in nine matches. Meanwhile, they have found the back of the net on just three occasions to this point.
Andorra come into this final day clash after losing each of their previous four in the group, with their most recent defeat coming away from home against Belarus. They were unlucky in that fixture, as the winning goal for the hosts was netted with just seven minutes remaining on the clock.
Israel is unbeaten in five previous internationals against Andorra, as they have recorded victories on all five previous occasions. Their latest success was a 2-1 win in June, while they were 4-1 victors on their most recent visit to Andorra in October 2014.
It has been a difficult period for Israel, and their results over the last seven days have been very disappointing. However, we could see them ending their Group I campaign on a positive note by landing maximum points against Andorra on Tuesday.
