A huge penultimate round of matches in La Liga takes place this Sunday, and all eyes will be on the bottom of the standings. Real Valladolid will need a victory to enhance their chances of survival this term, as they remain in the bottom three spots.
There will be pressure on the sides located toward the bottom of the La Liga standings this weekend, as time will be running out for them to maintain their top-flight status. Real Valladolid remain locked in the bottom three spots in the standings, and they will be desperately chasing a second straight win to move out of the bottom three on Sunday.
Interestingly, Valladolid has already won eleven of their 36 matches this season, which is more than any side in the bottom five of their standings. However, they have already suffered 20 defeats this term, which is the second most in La Liga. But, Valladolid should come into this fixture with renewed hope, as they landed a huge 3-1 home win over Barcelona in their previous home fixture.
This will also be a huge match for Almeria, as they are far from assured a place in the Spanish top-flight next season. They currently sit 15th in the standings, but they are just one point outside the bottom three places. However, that does mean that a victory this weekend would confirm their top-flight status for another season.
Almeria comes into this match after winning two of their previous five, but they have lost two of their last three matches. Their most recent defeat was suffered in midweek, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat on the road against Real Sociedad. However, they have won each of their previous two home matches, which includes a 3-0 home success against Mallorca last weekend.
Valladolid has won each of their last two matches against Almeria, with both coming by a 1-0 scoreline. Interestingly, both teams have scored in just one of the previous five encounters between these sides in La Liga. This exact fixture last season took place in the Segunda Division, with Almeria landing a 3-1 success.
Tensions will be high when these sides clash on Sunday, and we would be incredibly surprised to see more than 2.5 goals being scored. However, the preference is for Valladolid to record a third straight 1-0 win over Almeria in La Liga.
