A new era for Real Madrid got off to a bright start on matchday one, and they will be looking to continue their progression as they play for the second straight week on the road. Almeria will be the side with home advantage on Saturday.
Real Madrid began life without Karim Benzema in comprehensive fashion in their La Liga opener last weekend, as they scored a comfortable 2-0 win on the road against Athletic Bilbao.
The Spanish giants were excellent in the opening 45 minutes, as they scored twice to take the match effectively away from their rivals. Rodrygo scored the opening goal after 28 minutes, before the victory was secured with nine minutes to go before the break, as Jude Bellingham scored on his Real Madrid debut. Carlo Ancelotti fielded a youthful team for the opening match of the season, which saw a new-look forward line lead the attack. The Italian coach opted to play two up top, with Vinicius Jr partnering Rodrygo following Benzema’s exit to Saudi Arabia.
Almeria will play for the second straight week at home this weekend, but they will be looking for a much better display than they managed on opening night. The Spanish side struggled throughout the match in the final third, as they lacked a clinical edge despite registering five shots on target.
They were also made to pay for defensive mistakes, with Rayo Vallecano scoring two penalties inside eight first half minutes. It’s likely that they will need to cut out those defensive mishaps for this weekend’s showdown against Real Madrid if they have any chance of picking up at least a point. However, they will also need to show more quality in the final third after struggling in their opening match of the season.
Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last eleven matches against Almeria, winning on ten occasions. Over that period, they have averaged 3.6 goals per game compared to 0.8 goals per game registered by Almeria. Real Madrid landed a 2-1 win on their previous visit to Almeria in August 2022.
Real Madrid were excellent in their opening match of the new season, and this promises to be a more straightforward affair. Therefore, we will be siding with the Spanish giants landing a 3-0 win over their hosts.
