Almeria’s battle to stay in the Spanish top flight continues this weekend, as they look for a second win in three matches when they take on Athletic Bilbao. However, it could be a bad time to play the visitors, as Bilbao have won their previous two.
It promises to be a huge final month of the season for Almeria, as they battle for their top flight status in Spain. They come into this showdown sitting just outside the bottom three places, but a victory on Saturday could move them up to 14th in the table. Almeria has won just once in their previous five matches, while they have suffered two defeats over the same period.
However, they have been slightly more difficult to beat over their previous four matches, as they have lost just once. But, that defeat did come in their previous outing. That loss was suffered against Atletico Madrid last Sunday, with Antoine Griezmann netting a brace. Almeria’s goal in that loss was scored by Leo Baptistao.
Athletic Bilbao could be set to make a late charge for a European spot this term, as they come into this fixture in excellent recent form. Bilbao has gone four without defeat in La Liga, and have landed three victories over that period. They also come into this fixture after securing victories in each of their previous two matches.
The Spanish side was excellent in their previous outing, as they scored either side of half time to secure a 2-0 success against Real Sociedad. Both goals in the victory were netted by Inaki Williams. They will be hoping to kick on from that success on Saturday.
Bilbao boast an excellent recent record in this fixture, as they have won each of their last three against Almeria. Meanwhile, they have gone nine without defeat against their rivals this weekend. The previous meeting between the sides saw Bilbao claim a 4-0 win.
Bilbao’s record in this fixture is hard to ignore. We have also been pleased by their recent form in La Liga since exited the Copa del Rey. For that reason, we expect the away side to claim the points on Saturday.
