Barcelona will be looking to get back to winning ways in La Liga this weekend as they travel to Alaves. But, will they be able to get over their recent defeat against Real Madrid?
Barcelona find themselves in a testing position at this early stage of the La Liga season, as they are already seven points off the pace in the title race. It would appear as though the six point difference between themselves and Real Madrid may already be too great after their El Clasico defeat last time out. Barcelona were subdued in that fixture against Real Madrid, and even the bright spark produced by Ansu Fati to give Barcelona a lifeline did little to help the spirit in the camp.
However, Barcelona bounced back to winning ways in their most recent fixture, as they claimed a 2-0 success over Juventus. There was no Cristiano Ronaldo in the team for the Old Lady for that fixture, and that seemed to have a negative effect on Juventus. Barcelona took control of the game in the first half through Ousmane Dembele, before Lionel Messi scored a late penalty to secure the win.
Alaves will come into this fixture in 15th in the La Liga table, and their form has already been inconsistent. Their biggest challenge this season will be staying in the top division in Spain. Alaves have won twice in their last three games, but have also lost on one occasion. Their wins have come against Athletic Bilbao and Valladolid, while the only defeat that they have suffered has come against Elche. Scoring goals has been a problem for them so far this season, as they have scored just five goals in their seven games.
Barcelona have won eight of the nine fixtures between the sides in La Liga. The only win for Alaves came back in September 2016. Barcelona have scored a total of nine goals in the last two fixtures against Alaves, while their opponents this weekend have just found the net on one occasion.
Barcelona are clearly the better team of the two involved in this La Liga fixture, and they will comfortably get the three points in this fixture. The recent history between the sides would also suggest that Barcelona will score at least three goals in the win.
