The surprise league leaders in La Liga will look to keep their spot at the top of the table this weekend as they visit Celta Vigo. But, will they be able to get the three points?
It has been a disappointing start to this new La Liga season for Celta Vigo, and that has been shown in their last four fixtures in the league. Cela Vigo haven’t won in their last four, and they have lost three of these fixtures. That recent form could be down to playing a high calibre selection of teams, as they have been beaten by Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Osasuna. They didn’t score in any of those three defeats, and they conceded seven goals.
However, they were able to re-focus in their last league game, as they claimed a hard-fought point against Levante. Celta Vigo showed excellent character in that draw, as they came back from behind to claim the point. The equalising goal in the game for Celta Vigo was scored by Sergio Carreira Villarino. They will need to improve further if they have any hope of claiming at least a point against Real Sociedad.
Real Sociedad have been one of the standout teams in La Liga at this early stage of the season, as they have won four of their seven games. Sociedad have lost just once so far this season, with that defeat coming against Valencia. However, they have been able to rediscover their best form since that defeat, as they have won their last three games in La Liga. No team has scored more goals than Sociedad in La Liga this season. Their last three wins have come against Getafe, Real Betis and Huesca. Sociedad won their last game in La Liga 4-1 against Huesca, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring a brace in the win.
Celta Vigo have a decent record against Sociedad, as they have won three of the previous five against their opponents this weekend. Sociedad have won just twice in the space of the previous five. The last meeting ended in a 1-0 win for Celta Vigo.
Celta Vigo may have a decent record in the recent past against Sociedad, but they are constantly improving this season, and it would be hard to bet against the travelling side claiming the three points this weekend.
