An out-of-sorts AC Milan return to Serie A action on Friday evening, as they welcome Torino to the San Siro. The reigning Italian champions have dropped out of the top four in recent weeks, and they will need a return to winning ways in front of their home fans this weekend.
AC Milan’s dreams of a title defence have already gone up in smoke this season, and they are now battling for a finish in the Champions League spots in Serie A. Milan has gone five games without a victory in the league, and that has seen them drop down to sixth in the standings. However, a return to winning ways on Friday would see them go back into the top four before their rivals have an opportunity to respond.
Milan come into this fixture in damaging form, as they have lost each of their previous three league fixtures. The most recent of their losses was a stinging defeat in the Milan derby against Inter on Sunday evening. It was a poor display by the reigning champions on that evening, as they failed to register a single shot on target at the San Siro.
Torino would have taken confidence from Milan’s poor form over recent weeks, as they have been able to get within eight points of the reigning champions. At present, they sit seventh, and they look good value to at least finish in a Europa Conference League spot this term.
Torino is unbeaten in three Serie A fixtures, winning twice over that period. They were professional winners in their most recent fixture, as they landed a 1-0 home win over Udinese. The only goal in the game was scored by Yann Karamoh early in the second half.
Torino has picked up victories in each of their previous two matches against Milan in all competitions. The most recent of those wins was a 1-0 win at the San Siro in the Coppa Italia last month. Overall, Milan is winless in three previous meetings against their rivals on Friday.
Milan’s recent run of form in the league, and their poor record against Torino in recent seasons makes for grim reading ahead of this fixture. Things could be about to get worse for the defending champions before they get better, and therefore, we will be predicting a road success for Torino on Friday.
