AC Milan’s confidence will be high after setting up a Champions League semi-final showdown with Inter in midweek. But, their attention turns back to domestic matters this weekend, as they chase a second win in four when they welcome Lecce to the San Siro.
AC Milan has enjoyed an excellent week, as they secured their spot in the last four of the Champions League with a battling away performance against Napoli on Tuesday evening. However, their attention switches back to securing their qualification for the European competition next season, as they come into this fixture on Sunday with a two-point advantage over Inter.
Milan has been held to draws in each of their previous two matches, and they have won just once over their previous five in Serie A. It may be a slight concern that they have drawn each of their last two matches after a round of Champions League matches in recent weeks. Milan has also picked up just six points from six matches played across March and April.
Lecce may see this as a good time to come up against Milan, as they will likely still be celebrating their midweek Champions League heroics against Napoli. However, they have their own form to worry about ahead of this trip to the San Siro, as they have lost four of their previous five matches. That record sees them sit just five points above the drop zone.
Lecce was at least able to end their run of defeats last weekend, as they picked up a vital 1-1 draw at home against Sampdoria. They opened the scoring after 31 minutes, before Sampdoria stole a point with 20 minutes remaining.
Milan has an excellent record in this fixture, as they have lost just two of the previous 33 matches between the sides. Their most recent loss over that period came in April 2006. Since then, Milan has won five of the nine matches.
This should be an exciting game in Serie A between two sides that are chasing maximum points. Milan’s confidence from their Champions League success in midweek could be a vital factor to consider. They have an excellent record against Lecce, and we expect them to secure maximum points on Sunday.
